The Fall migration is a journey south back to Mexico and Central America and starts when the abundance of insects (their main food source) starts to dwindle with cold temps. The migration usually starts in August in the far north and will vary according to the state or province you live in and the species of hummingbirds you will see.
In the Spring the males will be the first to arrive, and as one might expect, they first can be spotted in southern states along the Gulf Coast. It is very dependent on the weather that year, but by the beginning of March people in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida should all be seeing hummingbirds.
